POST 229 Auxiliary – The Auxiliary would like to support us at the Trail of Tears sales.

NAVFOC – Planning is starting now for Veteran’s week in November. Please check our calendar for all the local events going on. If there is something we would like to ask them to help fund, let Stacey Harring know; she has the form/process information. POW/MIA day is Friday the 20th, Bill McGahey asked the Commander to check with City Hall if we could set up a table in city hall that day.

Boy Scouts Troop 201 – The troop is still looking for merit badge counselors; let Dave Silvernail know if you are interested in helping out. Once training is planned he will put it out. Especially looking for someone with skills as an electrician or carpenter. They will work with us on the float for the Veteran’s Day and Christmas Parades.

Girl Scout Troop 926: They had a troop meeting where they learned about flag etiquette and did a small flag retirement ceremony to practice the ceremony.

Old Business:

Honor Guard and Uniform: We will work with Huntsville to supplement them and support us when funerals arise for the County. We can borrow their weapons if we need to do a ceremony on our own. We have four volunteers so far, we would like to have up to 6 members join. The “uniform” will be $375 per person and Earl Watts suggested that we ask the membership to approve paying this from our funds. Bob Kirby made a motion to allocate $2250 and seconded by Tommy Whitten, motion passed.

Trail of Tears: TOT shirt sales will be on Saturday the 21st of September at the Harley Davidson in Huntsville. We will be setting up by 7:30 am. They would like two locations this year and will provide the tents. We will need to bring tables, chairs, banners, etc. Again this year we will receive a portion of the profits. There is a signup genius out there to sign up for a slot.

Madison Street Festival: It will be held on October 5th, we will be in the same location as last year in the park with Handel's Ice Cream, who will donate part of their profits to the Post. We will sell water and soft drinks and will drop off the tables the night prior. We need to have a fire extinguisher at our booth. The Post is also signed up for a place in the parade.

Tut Fann Veteran’s Home Bingo Sponsorship: We will be holding bingo monthly, the 3rd Saturday of the month. We will be supplying the candy bars monthly for the event. We would like the other organizations (ROTC, scouts, etc) to sign up to host a month.

New Business:

Cemetery Decorations: Flags for Veterans Day will be put out on Nov 2, and picked up on November 16th. December 2nd, we will be wreath laying; more information to come as it gets closer.

New Uniform: We would like to standardize the “uniform”, an AL white shirt and grey pants, get with Bob Kirby if you would like to order one. We need someone to take over ordering service caps, if interested.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 pm.
